Famous Last Words: Week 14

Even though I did not complete the declarations for reading A and B, I did do the reading -- just not on time. I enjoyed the reading. It was really interesting. I learned a little more about the Indian culture. My best writing for this week would have to be my writing for my capstone course. I had to write about behavioral issues among adolescents and my experience at my internship and how some of the children there have express behavioral problems.

In this particular class, I believe that my best writing was my stories in my portfolio. The stories written in my portfolio are written in an informal style. It is written in a gossip tone. The purpose of this is to contribute to the overall tone of my portfolio.

I have read many creative and unique storybooks and portfolios. One of my favorite is the portfolio written in a patient/ therapist style. The patients are Sita and Ramus. It deals with Sita and Ramus’s struggling relationship. Ramus is not the best husband to Sita. He seem to take Sita for granted. The therapist/ patient style really allows the reader to understand with what Sita is going through. It also allows the reader to sympathize with Sita.

Things are going well with my other classes. I am kind of stressed out right now though since finals are coming up. I am most stressed out about my Human Anatomy course. They are just a lot to memorize for this class. The final in this class is cumulative so that is kind of stressful. In my capstone class I have a 10 page essay due. I have not written a paper this long so I kind of nervous about it. I have yet to start on it. I plan to start it when I get back from thanksgiving.

Famous Last Words: Week 13

I am a little behind this week because I was out of town the past weekend so I did not get much homework done over the weekend. Because of this I have been catching up all week and consequently was not able to do a lot of the reading for this week. I did the storytelling though. I really enjoyed doing the storytelling this week. My story was based off of “Mira’s Bridegroom” from the Indian Fables and Folklore by Shovona Devi. My favorite thing about this story was the innocence and simplicity of it. It about a young girl who gets a doll as a gift from her father. She begins to form a strong attachment to the doll even as she grows up. I made my story more into a romantic story and intertwined a little Alladin in it. It was fun to write it.

My other classes are going well so far. Thanksgiving is next week and then finals will be here before I know it. I am a little stressed out about finals. I am trying to finish this course a little early so that I can save time to study for my other classes but because of busy schedule, it has been a little difficult. Hopefully before dead I can get this class done. I will miss this class though. I have enjoyed reading the stories and fables. I took mythology and folklore class semester, which is taught by the same instructor Laura Gibbs. I enjoy these kind of courses because not only do you get to manage your time but get to also learn a lot from the stories. I have not really noticed any connections between this class and my other classes. My other classes are all science and psychology courses so they do not really have a lot in common with an Indians Epic class.

Famous Last Words for Week 11

My readings this week went well except for the fact that I got during the week and could not finish it. Because of this I only did the half-reading option. Despite it, I still found a couple of stories that I really liked. One of them was “The Gifts of the Sun.” This story was about a husband and wife that receives a gift from the sun. One day while the husband was shooting arrows and his wife was helping retrieve them the sun was really shining on them. It was so hot the wife complained that she could no longer get the arrows for her husband. This encouraged the husband to pray to the sun. In response the sun gave the wife and husband a pair of slippers and parasol. The parasol gave the wife shade and the slippers helped her feet stay cool from the hot ground. And this is the story of the origin of the parasol and shoes. I just really liked this story because of how simple it was. It was just a cute story about how the parasol and slippers came to be.

I have read many creative storybook and portfolios. I am really impressed at the investment some of my classmates put into their storybook and portfolios. They went above and beyond of what was asked of them. Some of my favorite storybooks or portfolios were Rama and Sita: Not So Happily Ever After, CSI: Indian Epics, and Epic Women Tell All. I like how they intertwined modern themes into their storybook and portfolios.

My other classes are going well except that I am a little behind. I got sick earlier this week. I had to miss a couple of days of school. So I am spending this weekend on catching up on stuff.

Famous Last Words: Week 8

Since we did not have reading this week, I am going to talk about the reading last week. The reading last week went well. I actually included one of the readings from last week into my portfolio – the story about the God Krishna’s childhood. I chose this story because it stood out to me the most. I found it very interesting and entertaining and it fit well into my theme for my portfolio. My theme for my portfolio is a gossip theme. The God Krishna endures a lot of turmoil and drama so it was not hard making him the main focus of my portfolio.
The best writing I did last week was in my Social Psychology. I do my best writing in this class because I have written many psychology papers and therefore have kind of mastered it. I did not say that my best writing was in this Epics of India because I am not a creative writer. It takes me awhile to think up of ideas.
I have read many great stories from my classmates. What made some of my classmates’ stories amazing was how they creatively modernized it. It made it more interesting and relatable. Sometimes it is hard to understand Indian epics just because the culture in it is foreign so when you make it more relatable to the reader it is easier to read and understand.
Things are going well in my other courses. Because I taking mainly science and psychology courses there are not a lot of similarities among them and my Epics of Indian course. The only connection I can form is that in my courses I am required to read chapters for my classes and take notes. The notes help me recall main points of the chapter. I do this in Epics of Indian as well. I take notes of the stories I read so that I can look back at it.
