Introduction

(Senior Year)

Hey!

My name is Sarah Nguyen and as you can tell from the picture above I am 21 years old. I am a senior majoring in Psychology. I am also pre- physical therapy so I hope to go onto Physical therapy school after I graduate. Something you should know about me is that I love to travel and exploring new places. This past summer I went to the Virgin Islands with my family and had the time of my life. We pretty much lived on the beach that whole week. I got some pretty bad sunburns to show for that. Below is a picture of me floating in the crystal clear waters of the Virgin Islands. The second picture below is of me horseback riding on the beach in the Virgin Islands. This was actually my first time horseback riding. It was scary but also a lot of fun. I miss the Virgin Islands already.

Some other places that I have been to is Ireland, Belgium, and London. I visited these places through the OU study abroad program: June in Ireland. It was mainly set in Ireland but we got to have two free weekends to travel anywhere else. I used these two free weekends to go to Belgium and London. Below is my favorite picture from my study abroad experience. It is a picture of me at the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland (aka the Cliffs of Insanity from the film Princess Bride).

Aside from traveling, I do have fun in Norman. I like to read, hangout with friends, and watch movies. Some of my favorite books are Catcher in the Rye, Grapes of Wrath, Count of Monte Cristo, The Road, and Les Miserables. Some of my favorite movies are Fight Club, the Goonies, Inglourious Basterds, and Drive. I am also a fan of the tv shows True Detective, House of Cards, Friends (you can never go wrong with Friends), and New Girl. Below are just a couple of pictures of me hanging out in good ol' Norman. There's still a lot of Norman that I haven't seen. The first picture of me below is actually right next to this really cool vintage store called STASH. Check it out. The second picture below is me in downtown Norman right outside of the restaurant Syrup. If you like yummy breakfast foods you will love Syrup!

  1. Sarah, your pictures are INCREDIBLE! I have been to Ireland twice and it is still my favorite place I have ever been. I am so glad that you got to experience the beauty that is Ireland and while studying abroad too! Also, this is going to sound so strange, but is that Hope in your last picture? I am friends with her through my sorority! So weird to see someone I knew on your blog post!

    1. Yes that is Hope (haha). I mentioned you to her and she said that you are a really sweet person. I look forward to getting to know you and reading your posts!

  2. Hi Sarah! Your life looks wonderful! Is it hard to ride an unfamiliar horse in the Virgin Islands? I also learned how to ride a horse in my childhood. It was a challenge because some horses had bad personalities; they were trying to shake people down. I could not remember how many times I was shook down, but I finally become a conqueror. It looked like I past the horse’s testing; it finally recognized my position.

  3. Yet again, another summer that totally beats mine. I really need to get on this study abroad program. Because, this looks completely amazing. Hopefully one day it will happen. Those waters looks like pure glass and just plain awesome. My boyfriend just graduated last year from OU and he's applying for PT school soon too! I hope you get in! WhenI saw those cliffs I kinda geeked out! Is that sad? I sure hope not!

  4. What fun pictures, Sarah! That one with your friend in front of that mural is fabulous... the mural makes it seem like you are in some kind of magical kingdom! Definitely nicer than being outside in the snow, ha ha. I hope you will have fun with the epics this semester, and you've already seen all the royal intrigue that they offer... with even more intrigue to come in the Mahabharata! Enjoy!

  5. Sarah that's awesome that you got to visit the Virgin Islands! I have never been there but I really want to. I have spent a lot of time in Turks and Caicos Islands, which, judging from your picture, has the same crystal clear waters. It really is hard to beat beaching it in a place like that. Also love that you references Princess Bride, that is a very underrated movie. I have a friend who lives in Ireland so I have always wanted to visit. I have never gotten the chance but it is definitely on the bucket list. Also, Syrup is delicious.

  6. Hi Sarah! I wish I had read your intro before I commented on your storytelling post. The Count of Monte Cristo is also one of my favorite books. It seems as if we have a lot of things in common. I am wanting to take a minor in psychology. I wish I majored in psychology, i think it is a very interesting major. I also love to travel but have not had the opportunity to visit as many places as you have. Your pictures look like you had a lot of fun! I also love going to Syrup and could have breakfast at any time of day. I hope you get into PT school and I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors!

  7. That's so awesome you got to go to the Virgin Islands over the summer! I'm jealous because I love getting to travel but have never been outside of the United States yet. I would love to get to go to London or Ireland too, I bet that was an amazing cultural experience for you! And yes, Syrup is delicious. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to go for my first time until last week actually, even though I am now a senior. The Diner is also a really good place to go for breakfast but like Syrup, the waiting line is always so long and can take forever to get a seat.

  8. Hi, Sarah! I loved reading your introduction! Education abroad brought me some of my best OU memories, and I always enjoy reading about other people's experiences abroad! In fact, I almost went on the June in Ireland trip, too! What a small world. :)

  9. Hello Sarah! It’s great that you want to pursue a career in physical therapy; It’s a great field and you get to help people heal. I too like to travel though I don’t get to travel as much as I would like. I definitely hope to visit Germany and England some day. Horseback riding is definitely a lot of fun and I enjoy getting to ride from time to time. It sounds like you are well versed in reading and popular films. Fight Club is one of my favorite films also and a friend of mine calls me “Tyler Durden” sometimes. Good luck with the rest of your studies!

  12. Hi Sarah,
Your pictures are super cute. it seems like you had a blast on your 21st birthday. I have thought about being a physical therapist during high school years and realized it is not the path for me. Are you excited to graduate? I never been horseback riding, I am assuming that it was so much fun. I would like to try that once and see how it is. 

  13. Wow! I loved reading your introduction! Everything looks so great. I am so jealous that you were able to ride horses on the beach. For that being your first time riding, you sure picked a good location! Your taste in books and movies is similar to mine. Those are some great TV shows. Also, I would love to go to Ireland with OU.

  14. Hey Sarah! I always wanted to go traveling but I have the time. So far I have been to different states, Canada, and some parts of Asia but I have not been to Europe. Horse back riding is pretty cool, I did bareback once when i was around 10 and it hurt alot. You should try riding an elephant. Weird..yes. but it was a complete different experience. It cool you did Psychology.I like the subject but writing was never my strong suite. Good luck in your semester and getting in Pt school!

  15. Oh, I love Psychology! It's such an interesting subject and I actually considered majoring in it for a while! Your introduction was so interesting and your picture from the Virgin Islands make me so jealous. It looks so incredible there! I've wanted to do a study abroad program and I am going to try to work one in over the summer, but it seems like things keep getting in the way. Your trip looks incredible, though, so maybe it will inspire me to work harder at making it work! Although I haven't watched all of those shows, Friends and New Girl are definitely a go-to! I hope you have an amazing senior year!

I’m also a pre-health senior, so I’m sure you’re just as busy as I am keeping up with all of these crazy applications. I wish you the best of luck!
